5 gold's in Commonwealth

Yesterday I got an SMS on mobile it reads as

"What kind of country is this ? A man Samresh jung who has won 5 gold medals in Shooting event of Commonwealth games and adjudged best sportsman in CWG'06. There was no photo of him, no headlines about him in newspapers other than people like Aishwarya and Salman Khan and bollywood stars who topped all headlines with their photos. Is this the respect the media shows to the Sports person who has won 5 golds for India"

I would like have your comments on the the SMS according to me only newspapers of Himachal have some headlines regarding that
another sportsman from Hamirpur Distt of Himachal has bagged some medals I got some news from my friends from Hamirpur, I got news that Himachal govt. has announced some cash reward to the medal winners but still I haven't seen any photographs of these two sportsmen

Please do take some time to give your views about that !!!

your blog is great food for thought, but these issues have to be taken up holistically and a one sided approach is not sufficient for this.
First, I think there were pictures of all the players that won medals and samresh got enough publicity not only in the local media but national medai too. In fact I remember one channel trying to get his daughter to say " Best of Luck Papa"...the fact that she was too small to say even papa with ease was a fact that the overenthusiastic corrospondent chose to ignore. So, I dont agree to the view in the sms.
Second, the problem with Indian sportsmen is just that, before they get a chance to achieve something, they get idolized in the country, which in more ways than one leads to complacency. If you perform consistently over a period of time, every form of media will trat you like God. A Sportsman should concentrate on performing not on how the media is treating him. Third, it is totally understable that the stars that have been named in the SMS got more publicity;without that they are nothing. Media is the very existence for people like Aishwarya rai, Shahrukh Khan et al.

Well thats what I had to say on the sms in your blog, if you get comments on your blog to work you can post this there. And, I hopefully be writing something new tomorrow on my blog. But, more than once it has been pointed out to me that I should write only if I have something to write and not just because its sunday. Anyways Take care, and enjoy reading, writing and blogging.

Well...evn THE HINDU had a picture of Flintoff on Sportstar's cover n jus a teeny-weeny one of Samresh Jung..well thy say tat nobody wnts to read bout thm. Same' with our national media which' rightly been labelled 'negative' by our President.
We are responsible for it, we dont take any interest in our performance, leave alone 'National Pride'. Chinese are far better in tis respect. They made it a part of there daily routine by inculcating sports in their daily life n d results r witnessable.
So as d sayin goes, 'We hav to b d change, we want to witness'.
